Introducing Groundwork’s 2025 Assistant Farm Manager: Sophie Browner
Sophie is so excited to be at Groundwork for another season! As a Food Systems Fellow throughout the 2024 season, Sophie fell in love with the work, the land, and the community of Paonia. The seven month fellowship had been her first time farming in one place from the first buds of spring to the first frost of winter. Having the space to observe, wonder, and learn in rhythm with the seasons was a profound experience that made her feel deeply rooted in herself and the world around her. While facing the complicated challenges that sit at the heart of our food system often feels overwhelming, Sophie loves to imagine and dream up possible worlds with her hands rooted in the soil.
Sophie will be an Assistant Farm Manager at Groundwork this year through Americorps Mountain Roots program. She is excited to take more responsibility on the farm, be a mentor to the new fellows, and continue to learn and grow as a farmer and community member.
Sophie enjoys walking barefoot, creating art, playing music, and making tea for friends from her ever-growing collection of herbs. This season, Sophie is hoping to slow down and look within herself, her fellow community members, and the land to help her understand and work towards a vision of the world that inspires her.
