Introduction: Mia Borger

I applied to this fellowship because…

I was desperate for a change. Prior to this experience I was living in ways that didn’t align with my vision of the future. It was unsustainable, so finding a program that explored ways of living firmly based on the land seemed like the opportunity I was waiting for. I have wanted to learn ways of being that are based on harmony and reverence for the place we call home. To get a chance to do exactly that while also living in community with people who are striving to learn similar things to me is not only exciting but paradigm-shifting.

Some life experiences that brought me to the point where I am…

I have always wondered at the secrets that the nature around me held. I would build fairy houses as a kid in the hopes of luring some spark of magic mystery into my life. It always felt like there was a hidden world just beyond my comprehension, a world that was filled with vivid life and love. That desire to understand the magic of the world is what drives me to learn about the world as it is now, in all its brilliant complexity. It led me to groundwork to explore ways to live that amplify the natural cycles around me. It keeps me hoping for a better future based on the world as it is.

A driving question or point of inquiry for me

How do we live in ways that promote the well-being of ourselves and the world around us?

How do we start sustainable cycles of reciprocity?

How can we imagine a better future for the world from the path we are currently treading?

The thing I’d like to focus most on this summer is

I want to learn things I can take with me back into the throes of modernity to firmly ground me in my connection with the earth.
